Birmingham poised for hospitality boom

The next two years look set to provide new opportunities for those looking for hospitality jobs in Birmingham as major developments in the city prepare to open.

Later this year, the city's first rooftop restaurant will open at The Cube, a striking new building that forms part of the Mailbox development located on the banks of the Birmingham Worcester canal.

A number of other venues offering waterside dining are also planned, providing more options for those interested in restaurant work.

Commenting on the development earlier this year, Birmingham City councillor Mike Whitby said that the Mailbox and its "stylish restaurants have given Birmingham a contemporary profile rivalling the capitals of Europe".

"The Cube will help to elevate us on to a global stage," he predicted.

Birmingham is also likely to receive a boost in 2009 as the VerTiPlex entertainment tower opens, luring more tourists to the vibrant city.

Charles Pettifer, project director for Pettifer Estates, told bdonline.co.uk that the development will also create 650 full-time local jobs when it opens.
