A major leisure company in the north-east has revealed it is poised to create hundreds of local hospitality jobs as it outlines its plans for the future.

Tavistock Leisure already operates three hotels and three Italian restaurants in the region and now nebusiness.co.uk reports that the firm is planning to expand both operations in 2008.

The most significant growth is the hotel business, with the firm intending to build a new hotel in Whitley Bay this year and currently looking for land on which to build two more as it seeks to reach its target having ten properties in operation over the next few years, according to the publication.

Mark Hird, the managing director of the firm, said: "We are always looking out for new sites and are currently looking at a number across the region, including developing our brand into north Tyneside initially.

"We would certainly hope to have six hotels in the north-east by the end of 2008."

It comes months after Tavistock Leisure unveiled plans for a hotel and conference centre in South Shields on the site of the Gypsies Green Stadium, with a significant number of local jobs expected to be created.
