Roundhay Park Mansion in Leeds could be poised to get a celebrity resident after an "extremely high profile chef" expressed an interest in opening a restaurant there, according to reports.
Speaking to Roundhaytoday.co.uk, the man responsible for compiling a list of firms who want to operate a restaurant in the mansion, Christie & Co's Mark Czajka, said that the unnamed chef has big plans for the site.
"There's a well-known chef who has appeared on TV before, looking at proposing a restaurant brasserie with a cooking school."
However, he or she faces stiff competition from a "broad selection" of rivals, with one experienced restaurateur who is already operating venues in the north Leeds also keen on securing the contract.
Andrew Carter, the leader of Leeds City Council, said it "is very important that we get the right kind of company to run the restaurant" at the mansion, which is situated on 700 acres of parkland.
The firm which does win the right to operate the restaurant will be well-positioned to attract the many tourists who visit Roundhay Park to tour the spectacular themed gardens or to visit the Tropical World wildlife park.
