Contract catering business launches

A new contract catering business has been launched in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear, according to reports.

Alan O'Kane owns Sidney's, an upscale Tynemouth eatery specialising in modern English cuisine, but told the Journal that he was keen to explore the opportunities the contract catering sector in the north-east has to offer.

He described the market as "big" and "not saturated so we could open something different".

Mr O'Kane, who has previously worked at the world renowned Savoy hotel in London, teamed up with local business leaders Sue and Richard Hooper of the Deli around the Corner to launch the new contract catering business, called Sidney's around the Corner.

"We both source ingredients from artisan suppliers and we both have very high standards, which is important if you are going into partnership with someone," Mr O'Kane explained.

The new firm has already landed a deal to supply food service at _space, an architecture and management firm based in Gosforth.

New chef and restaurant work roles have also been created by the new venture, with a total of three chefs and 15 waiting staff employed by the business.
