Around 20 local jobs are set to be created on completion of a "school meals hub" for Bournemouth, it has been reported.
The development, which will be managed by Cygnet Catering, is there to address the lack of kitchen facilities apparent in many of the borough's schools, according to the Dorset Echo.
Capacity for the centre's kitchens, situated at the site of the former Townsend School, is estimated to be 2,000 hot meals per day being issued to 22 schools.
Malcolm Davies, cabinet member for children and families services, told the publication: "This is part of a wider national initiative to improve the quality of school meals across the country."
The newspaper claims the new service will take effect gradually over four months with all borough primaries benefiting from hot meals in "a dining room environment" from late January 2009.
In other news, PropertyMall.com reported the Punshon Memorial Methodist Church in Bournemouth is set to be redeveloped as a hotel, with several luxury and budget operators interested in taking it on.
