People looking for catering jobs in Wales have been given a boost by the news that McDonalds is looking to recruit staff and will pump £5.1 million into the area.

The US food giant is planning to redesign 12 of its restaurants this year and follows the £10 million which it has invested in Wales during the past 24 months.

Richard Forte, chief operations officer at McDonald’s, said: "We're delighted to continue our extensive programme in Wales and bring an extra boost to the local economy."

A restaurant in Aberystwyth was the first to benefit from the investment and is to be followed by a Cardiff McDonalds, which will get a 3,200sq ft drive-thru.

Landlords and businesses need to come to better rent agreements in order to secure restaurant jobs in the future, according to Retail Ireland director Torlach Denihan, who said the present situation needs to be reviewed.
