UK catering jobs could be bolstered by simpler tax arrangements

Businesses which provide catering jobs in the UK are being held back by tax rules which are too draconian and complex, according to one expert, who said some smaller companies are being hindered by them.
Steve Hughes, economic advisor at the British Chambers of Commerce, said that too many tax changes also negatively impact on the country's small to medium-sized businesses because they have to adapt to them.
"The more complicated the tax system is, the more time a small business has to spend complying with its tax obligations. Ultimately, the cost of compliance with tax and other forms of regulation can prevent or hinder business expansion," he stated.
Mr Hughes added that only the business community can provide sustainable growth for the UK economy and he believes there is a disproportionate burden on the UK's smaller firms.
A report from the Federation of Small Businesses showed that 75 per cent of small companies believe that they would be able to grow if the UK tax system was simplified.
