British schools need to do more to encourage youngsters to get into catering jobs, according to one expert, who said that at the moment educational institutes are not doing enough to promote the career path.
Vicky Williams, human resource director of resourcing and development at Compass Group UK & Ireland, told Recruiter.co.uk that good candidates are not scarce but good promotion of available roles is, which makes it tough for people to find them.
"We need people of all abilities and skills to understand that contract catering can offer a fantastic career with opportunities to work in some very exciting places for people with the highest expectations of food quality and customer service," she stated.
The expert added that building a talent pipeline for the catering industry is important.
In other news, the Guardian's Jason Sheehan stated that people working in budget eateries take as much pride in their work as people plying their trade in high-end, expensive restaurants.
