A new establishment is intending to give customers a pick-me-up and will buoy people looking for cafe jobs in Cambridge in the process.

Luxury food company Patisserie Valerie, which has been operating since 1926, opened its first site outside of London on Monday (March 22nd) and pledged to create more than 20 new jobs in the process.

Paul May, chief executive for the company, said that Patisserie Valerie values its presence on the high street and is happy to be creating cafe jobs in the area.

"Some people think that it's a bit odd opening a luxury cake shop in the middle of a recession, but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Coffee, cakes and pastries are a great pick-me-up if you are feeling a little bit down," he stated.

Origin8, a deli-café in St Andrew's Street in Cambridge, has recently been awarded with a Telegraph Magazine shop award for its locally-sourced produce.
