Cafe conversion set for Humberside

A vacant shop in Humberside is set to be converted into a cafe bar by a former footballer who is sure he can make a success of the business.

The Hull Daily Mail reported on the plans from John Hawley, the former Bradford City, Arsenal and Sunderland player, who wants to breathe new life into the former Jaz Café Bar, which closed earlier this month.

Chairman of Beverley Town Council's Planning and Environment Committee Duncan Jack told the publication that there was no way the group would stand in the way of the development.

"We couldn't see any reason to turn it down under planning law. We had concerns about its customers spilling straight out on to the street at what is quite a busy junction. But if highways are happy with it, that's fine," he stated.

The Grimsby Telegraph recently reported that the vacant Cleethorpes Leaking Boot site could be transformed into a hotel if proposals from the owners are given the green light by planners.
