People 1st and GoSkills merge

People 1st has merged with GoSkills to provide a strong voice for those working in hospitality jobs in the UK.

The new, unified sector skills council was formed following extensive consultations with businesses across the hospitality, leisure, passenger transport, travel and tourism sectors.

Brian Wisdom, chief executive of People 1st, said he believes the move will take both organisations in the right direction.

"This is an exciting time for the industry and we will ensure its voice is heard and provide the leadership it deserves," he added.

Some of the industries that People 1st will represent include contract food service providers, hotels and pubs.

GoSkills, on the other hand, will represent a number of other industries, including aviation, buses and UK waterways.

Last month, People 1st revealed that almost three in four Brits agreed that the country needs to improve the quality of its customer service ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
