Olympic Games could boost hospitality sector

Hospitality recruitment is likely to be given a boost by the London 2012 Olympic Games, according to a survey of people working in the industry.

The poll, carried out by Caterer and Hotelkeeper, found that two-thirds of people in the sector expect trade to improve in the coming year.

In terms of 2011, 33 per cent of people surveyed reported little change in their business levels while 34 per cent described moderate growth in trade.

The optimistic mood for 2012 is partly down to the Olympics, with 50 per cent of respondents predicting this would have a positive effect on the hospitality sector as more tourists visited London and the surrounding areas.

British Hospitality Association deputy chief executive Martin Couchman said: "The Olympic Games is clearly the event of the year, though the Diamond Jubilee will also create a lot of interest."

Food service consultancy Horizon recently warned that people in hospitality jobs would need to be willing to adapt their business models in 2012 in order to be successful.
