New hotel jobs are to be created in Nottingham with the opening of a venue in the Lace Market conservation area of the city.
The city council's development control committee has approved plans for the 65-bedroom hotel, which will be built on the site of Catherine House in Woolpack Lane once it is demolished, the Nottingham Post reports.
"I welcome the development in that area," the newspaper reports councillor Hylton James as saying.
"It revitalises the area and creates jobs. That's what we want to encourage - to create jobs in the city and bring it back to what it was," he added.
Maber Associates, which is developing the hotel, agreed that it would spend more than £48,000 on improving the public areas around the new building.
Further north in Sheffield, plans to build a new Holiday Inn Express Hotel in the city are now back on track, the Sheffield Telegraph recently reported.
