Restaurant quarter in Kettering 'set to improve'

Kettering’s newly-established restaurant quarter could enjoy a successful 2012, making chef de partie jobs and other kitchen roles available to people in the area as several new venues open.

The units to house the restaurants were finished in autumn of this year but have lain empty since, reports the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph.

However, there are hopes that twentyretail, a marketing company recently hired to promote the scheme, will be able to drum up interest from the catering world.

Sue Harrison of twentyretail said she feels the size, availability and readiness of the units made them an attractive prospect and expressed her hope that several restaurants could open in the new year.

A regeneration official from Kettering County Council, Paul Thomas, cited the current economic mood as the reason for the development's slow start. However, he added:  "This is already providing the people of Kettering with a return on the investment. We remain excited about the prospects of letting the units."

The £2.2 million investment is intended to make Market Place friendlier to pedestrians and involves retail and cultural developments as well as a restaurant quarter.
