The growth of the budget hotel sector could be good news for those interested in hotel jobs.

Report: Budget hotels set for continued growth

The budget hotel sector is set to see a successful year as travellers look for ways to reduce the cost of going away, it has been suggested.

Citing a report from research firm Mintel, the Independent reports that between 2002 and 2006, the growth of the budget hotel sector was triple that of the hotel market as a whole, with the trend set to continue.

Revenues generated by budget hotels could increase to £1.5 billion by 2012 as the UK prepares to host the Olympic Games.

This could provide jobseekers keen on working in hotels with more opportunities as chains expand to meet the growing demand.

Research released last month by analysts at Melvin Gold Consulting also appears to back up the confidence in the budget hotel market, with the firm reporting that the sector currently represents 12 per cent of the hotel market.

It forecast that the next five years will see the number of budget hotels grow by ten per cent, with five per cent growth in the five years after that.
