Pub chain expansion continues

A major pub chain is creating local jobs as its 2008 expansion programme continues to roll out across the UK, it has been reported.

Barracuda Group currently operates 215 bars and pubs across the UK, including the Smith & Jones and Cape, and has plans to open 30 new venues across the country this year.

In January, it unveiled the 40th outpost of its Varsity student bar chain in Gloucester and is now set to open a new property in Yorkshire.

According to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, February 7th will see the town become home to a new Barracuda Bar, located on Huddersfield Road.

The development has created 25 local jobs and according to bar manager Maxine Blake, has given new recruits the chance to gain new skills.

"The team are undergoing a full training programme focusing on high service and standards ready for the opening night."

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Barracuda Group had enjoyed a successful festive season, with sales increasing by three per cent over the Christmas period.
