A newly revamped art-deco hotel has just opened on Morecambe waterfront in Lancashire, creating 40 new jobs in the town, according to a source.
Following the transformation taken on by developers Urban Splash, the BBC reports that the hotel now offers 44 rooms, six rooftop suites and a restaurant and bar.
Sue Thompson, a member of the Friends of the Midland Hotel, said: "It will help put Morecambe back on the map for all the right reasons and will help breathe new life into our town".
Funding organisations for the development, including the Heritage Lottery Fund, expect the hotel to bring £1 million per year to the local economy.
The news provider reports that the establishment was famously used as a backdrop for ITV's police drama Poirot and received acknowledgement in Bill Bryson's travelogue Notes from a Small Island.
Local reaction to the hotel and its influence on Morecambe's regeneration plans has been positive, according to the Guardian, with many "excited and optimistic" about the town's future.
