Plans for a hotel near Bridgefoot to expand with a new leisure centre and holiday cabins should create local jobs if approved next week, a source has claimed.

Features of the new expansion of the Melbreak Country House Hotel will include 42 bedrooms, with the leisure club incorporating a new restaurant and function rooms, as well as a swimming pool, gym, spa and a juice bar, according to the Times and Star.

About 100 jobs are expected in total, with many in hospitality and catering roles.

Owner Ian Hughes told the publication: "The development will bring more tourism into the area, we've seen a gap in the market to get more families coming to West Cumbria."

Responsible for deciding if the project goes ahead is Allerdale Council.

The Melbreak Country House Hotel offering "a warm and friendly welcome" to all its patrons - according to the official website - is located near Workington and the Cumbrian coast and has convenient access to the main route to the North Lakes.
