The famous Inverlochy Castle Hotel is reportedly at "the centre" of a plan to give the town a jobs boost, it has been revealed.

A project to expand facilities of the establishment's grounds will feature a focal multimillion-pound five-star visitor centre, according to the Press and Journal, which could entail the creation of hospitality jobs and retail work on completion.

With plans still in their early stages, the hotel landowners are currently taking their proposals for a long-term redevelopment of the site to boost Lochaber's economic future before the council.

Guests generally spend £500 a night at the Inverlochy, which has around 50 staff and has accommodated such celebrities as Robert De Niro, Mel Gibson and the late Charlie Chaplin, the publication says.

The project will also create new homes for the area, a village hall and open spaces for the community.

Situated close to Fort William below Ben Nevis, the historic hotel was built by Lord Abinger in 1863 with Queen Victoria having stayed there when it was a private residence, according to the hotel's website.
