£200m leaf-shaped hotel set for Edinburgh

An unusually-designed hotel project for Haymarket in Edinburgh has been given the go-ahead by the city council, it has been reported, meaning good news for hotel jobs.

Shaped like a leaf, the scheme will include a six-storey Travelodge, restaurants, offices and shops, according to the BBC.

Jim Lowrie, convenor of the planning committee for Edinburgh city council, told the news provider: "Redevelopment of this site will create the opportunity to introduce a variety of a new uses into the area, such as leisure, business and commercial facilities."

He added these features will "bring positive benefits to the city's economy", reflecting potential for local jobs.

With its dedicated developer Tiger Developments due to commence work later in the year, the council also hopes the development will "breathe new life" into the surrounding area.

According to Tiger Developments which was established in 1999, the entire scheme will encompass 500,000 sq ft of space.
