A brand new four-star hotel for the city centre of Leeds has been given the go-ahead, it has emerged.
The £13 million project from developer Oxford GB is to be located in the city's civic quarter in close proximity to Millennium Square, Leeds Metropolitan University and the site of the recently announced Leeds Arena.
Work on the hotel which should create numerous hospitality jobs for the region - is scheduled to start later this year, with an opening slated for the fourth quarter of 2011, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Jean Dent, Leeds City Council's director of city development, said: "This is a prime site within the civic quarter and is perfectly situated to benefit from the development of the new Leeds Arena.
"It is the final piece of the jigsaw, which will complete the regeneration of this new part of the city centre, which started with the redevelopment of Millennium Square."
Peel Holdings was recently granted permission to develop a 210-bedroom hotel in Manchester's Trafford Centre.
