The new Travelodge hotel in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, is set to provide a significant boost to the seaside town's economy, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the Scarborough Evening News, the town's mayor Bill Chatt described the development as "lively and vibrant" and "just what Scarborough needs".
The 140-room complex, which has helped create 20 hospitality jobs in the resort, has given the former St Nicholas Hotel "a new lease of life", he says.
Councillor Chatt added: "After winning the most enterprising town in Europe award Scarborough now has to move forward and this is an example of this.
"A big national company has come to Scarborough and invested millions of pounds not just for their benefit, but for the benefit of the town."
Greg Dawson, Travelodge's director of communications, said the firm's arrival would bring new people to the area.
"Not only will this bring business for local restaurants and retailers, but if visitors decide they want to come back to Scarborough for longer, they may look at staying at other hotels in the area for their next visit," he stated.
Earlier this year, restaurant work was created in Scarborough when the £200,000 Saba Thai Cuisine opened for business, the Evening News reported.
