Hospitality jobs could be created in Swindon after it was revealed talks are ongoing over plans to build a new hotel in the town's centre.
The Swindon Advertiser reports that the town's council, Muse Developments and regeneration group The New Swindon Company are discussing a proposal to construct a new accommodation facility on the site of a former police station on Fleming Way.
According to the newspaper, construction work could begin in summer 2010 with a view to a 2012 opening date.
Council leader Rod Bluh said Muse Developments was looking for a hotel developer to become involved in the project at present a task he predicted would not be too difficult given the pre-existing demand for traveller accommodation in the town.
"It is actually quite difficult to get a hotel room in Swindon during the week," he stated.
Last week, a spokesperson for national hotel group Travelodge claimed that demand continues to exist in the budget accommodation sector, despite the recession.
