Hopes still high for Worcester hotel jobs

Funding arrangements for a new hotel at the home of Worcestershire County Cricket Club are set to change, but the development should still go ahead, it has been reported.

The club's proposal for a 120-bedroom accommodation facility – which would create hospitality jobs at the New Road site - is set to be presented to Worcester City Council's planning committee next month.

However, original plans to sell the hotel to a pension fund have been dropped and the club is now seeking outside investment for shares in the development, reports the Worcester News.

County chairman Martyn Price told the newspaper that it still fully expects to receive planning permission for the hotel development.

He added: "The bank have been very supportive, but we need to get quite a bit of money on board - in the region of £3 million to £4 million - which will enable us to get it built and then maybe in five years sell it to a pension fund when we get a far bigger amount of money for it."

Last month, the owners of Staffordshire's Alton Towers theme park announced that further hospitality recruitment could take place at the popular tourist attraction, with plans for a third hotel on the table.
