Hotel jobs and restaurant work will be created in South Wales if plans for a new waterfront development in the village of Mumbles are given the go-ahead.
Swansea Council has given its initial backing to the scheme, which would see development firm EP Leisure build a four-star spa hotel and piazza at Oystermouth Square.
Restaurant and wine bar outlets, plus ground floor shops, are also at the centre of the scheme, meaning a variety of local jobs could be created.
Bryan Evans, managing director of EP Leisure, said the Welsh Assembly is urging coastal resorts to look at ways of strengthening their attractiveness, adding that this is what the Mumbles development would achieve.
He added: "The introduction of a spa hotel will not only meet contemporary expectations, it will reverse the flow of hotel closures and bring a much-needed impetus into the economic base of Mumbles."
Chris Holley, leader of Swansea Council, claimed the development would in the event that planning permission is granted - provide "a major boost" for tourism in the Swansea area.
Last month, the South Wales Echo reported that hotel jobs could be created in Cardiff in a new development on the site of the Welsh capital's former Central Hotel.
