Recruiter backing for government employment plan

Plans to provide additional support for the UK unemployed have been backed by a leading recruiter body.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) says proposals outlined in the Building Britain's Future publication are a step in the right direction.

Among the measures are the option of a job, training or work experience place for any person under the age of 25 who has been out of work for a year; support for those hoping to found a start-up business and the creation of a £1 billion Future Jobs fund.

With research from the likes of Travelodge and holiday website Domegos.co.uk suggesting that more Brits are holidaying in the UK due to the recession, some of the positions created could potentially be hotel, catering and chef jobs.

Tom Hadley, the REC's director of external relations, claimed new entrants into the labour market "must grab every opportunity they can" to gain experience and develop their skills.

He commented that jobless people in the UK could potentially use the temporary employment market as "a stepping stone" back into full-time work – something that may fit in well with the summer holiday season approaching.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, recently claimed recruitment agencies should be rising to the challenge of finding work placements for staff as the recession ensues.
