The newly-refurbished Stracey Hotel has reopened in Norwich to meet rising demand from tourists flocking to the area.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been spent transforming the hotel near Norwich train station from a snooker hall and guest house into a 20-bedroom boutique hotel, bar and restaurant, reports the Norwich Evening News.

More hotel jobs could soon be on the way in Norwich as it is reported that work on other establishments in the area is underway.

Stracey Hotel general manager Armin Brocksam told the newspaper: "There are more tourists coming to Norwich as there are in the UK as a whole, thanks to the recession and the state of the pound against the euro."

"Obviously the owner has seen a gap in the market and thinks the hotel will do well," he added.

Long-established Norfolk institution the Cliftonville Hotel on Cromer's seafront has also seen its bookings up five per cent during June, reports Business Weekly.
