InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) still expects to create 140,000 hotel jobs over the next few years despite the current tough economic climate, it has been revealed.
The firm's results for the third quarter reveal that profits in the UK fell from £55 million to £40 million while revenue per available room dropped by 15.2 per cent.
Andrew Cosselt, chief executive of IHG, explained that while there have been signs of a recovery, things are still tough.
He said: "The trading environment remains challenging. We see signs of occupancy stabilising, but rate is still under considerable pressure across the board."
Despite this, IHG currently has 1,500 properties in development across the globe which will result in the creation of 140,000 new hotel jobs in the coming years.
Recently, IHG revealed that it is planning to open a new hotel at the former Queen Anne's Chambers, in the heart of London's Westminster district.
The project should be finished by 2012, meaning that it could create Olympic jobs.
