Pier development to create Suffolk hotel jobs

Plans for a new development on Southwold Pier, Suffolk, have been given the go-ahead - a decision which will create 12 hotel jobs in the seaside town.
Stephen Bournes, who will co-own the pub with his wife Antonia, told the Waveney District Council's development control committee that the new hotel will create six full-time and six part-time jobs. It will be welcome news in a town which has lost around 30 bed and breakfast beds recently, according to Mr Bournes.
The new five-storey, 30-bedroom hotel - which will take around 14 months to build - will be open throughout the year.
Councillor Paul Ashdown said: "Southwold is a unique place and I think this development will enhance that. It will make this building up-to-date and add accommodation which we are losing at this moment in time."
Mr Bournes has a background in hotel catering and bought the pier in 2007 from previous owner, Chris Iredale.
