InterContinental Hotel Group is to create hotel jobs in Newcastle with the opening of a new boutique hotel next year.
The 148-bed, four-star hotel is expected to open in around 12 months and create 80 full and part-time jobs at a cost of £20 million.
It will be the US company's first foray into Tyneside and its fourth UK venture.
Owned by Simon Matthew-Williams and Paul Bolton, the developer Sanguine Hospitality is also planning a Hotel Indigo for Liverpool city centre.
Mr Bolton told the Liverpool Daily Post: "Hotel Indigo is a new approach to the market. It offers all the individuality and luxury of a boutique hotel with the added benefit of being backed by InterContinental Hotels Group global reservation system."
The proposals, which are subject to approval, also outline plans to get Michelin-starred chef Marco Pierre White involved in running a brasserie in the former Eagle Star House building.
