People looking for hotel jobs in the north-east have been buoyed by the news that a troubled establishment has been bought from administrators Ernst & Young in a £6 million deal.

The 57-bed New Northumbria Hotel on Osborne Road, near Newcastle, includes Scalini's Jesmond, and Louis' Restaurant, as well as two bars, namely Bar Polo and Osborne's Bar.

David Lee, director at property agents Christie + Co, which handled the sale, said that the company is happy to have secured the business, which it believes offers great investment potential.

"We are delighted to have secured this long-established hotel, which has generated an admirable reputation, for our client. The mid-market hotel sector offers fantastic investment opportunities," he said.

In other London hotel job news, Travelodge is going to expand its current UK-based business and invest in another ten sites around the country, creating hundreds of new hotel roles.
