Those looking for hotel jobs in Hampshire have received a boost after a judicial review challenging the development of a new establishment at the Rose Bowl cricket ground was thrown out.

Eastleigh Borough Council's decision to spend more than £30 million on the project was challenged by local hoteliers, but their opposition was not backed by a judge, who said there was "no realistic chance of success".

Rose Bowl managing director Glenn Delve stated that he is happy with the decision and will now start planning a construction timetable for the development.

"We're very relieved and very happy that the judge has recognised the very considered approach that Eastleigh [Borough Council] has taken to this development and role that they should play in it," he said.

If the Rose Bowl ground's development was delayed it could have had a knock-on effect and forced the planned 2011 test match against Sri Lanka to be moved.
