Redevelopment plans at one Welsh pier could finally restore it to its former glory and give the area a new hotel if they are given the green light, according to one news provider.
The BBC reported on the plans for Mumbles Pier in Swansea, which have been submitted to Swansea City and Borough Council and include proposals for a boardwalk, family entertainment centre and hotel.
John Bollom, managing director of the pier's owners Ameco, told the news provider that the development would help to restore the site in a cost-effective manner.
"Sadly, privately owned piers do not qualify for heritage funding and the local authority has other restoration priorities such as Oystermouth Castle. We therefore had to find a privately-funded solution to generate £3 million for replacement costs," he said.
The Lancashire Evening Post recently reported plans from the Premier Inn hotel chain to bring a new establishment to Preston's city centre, which would include retail units.
