A new hotel is to form part of a new development on the southern edge of Leeds city centre but must create new hotel jobs for those in the local area, a commentator has argued.
John Baron, writing for the Guardian, stated that the City One site – which will involve ten buildings including a hotel and casino – is being called on to ensure that it properly consults with residents in the inner city communities of Hunslet, Holbeck and Beeston.
Councillor Geoff Driver asserted that it is important for people from these communities to be able to access these hotel jobs.
Mr Driver said: "We need to create opportunities, not build walls. If we want to create opportunities for people to get jobs, they need to know that it's there."
Last year, GB Building Solutions and Oxford Hotels announced that they had received planning permission for a £30 million development in the city centre, which will create new hotel jobs in the area.
