Premier Inn is waiting to hear if a planned £5 million development will be given the all clear by East Staffordshire Borough Council.
The Burton Mail reported that the development is likely to go ahead as long as a section 106 agreement is put in place, which would mean the hotel chain would be obliged to contribute to local amenities.
John Bates, head of acquisitions UK and Ireland for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, stated that at present there is a resolution to grant planning consent subject to a Section 106 agreement being ratified.
"A new hotel in Burton forms part of our strategy to grow Premier Inn across the Midlands and the UK. It will see us creating Premier Inn rooms in Burton — great news for the local economy and for people visiting the town," he said.
The Shropshire Star recently reported on a £7 million hotel plan for Shrewsbury town centre, which will be run by Premier Inn and open in 2012.
