Second quarter growth 'is promising for hospitality jobs'

The growth experienced by the UK's economy in the second quarter of 2010 is encouraging for employment, including hospitality jobs, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has claimed.

An increase of 1.1 per cent was seen in the nation's economy between April and June, which REC chief executive Kevin Green said is "well above expectations".

"The fact that we have the fastest quarterly expansion since 2006 will improve business confidence and should encourage firms to start hiring new staff," he added.

Mr Green went on to say that recent data from the recruitment industry showed that demand for staff in the private sector has already seen an increase over recent months but that this needs to accelerate.

Last week, Land Securities reported that construction had started again on its multimillion pound shopping development in Leeds, which is set to include new restaurants, after it stalled during the economic downturn.
