Hotel and restaurant jobs are to be created when Brewers Quay in Weymouth is transformed in time for the Olympic Games.

As well as a new hotel and restaurant, an apartment complex, bars and specialist retail outlets are also to be built at the quay's Old Harbour development, the Dorset Echo reports.

The building is Grade II listed, so any developments made are to retain its heritage features.

Michel Hooper-Immins, secretary of Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, explained to the newspaper that Brewers Quay is already a popular visitor attraction and a "big asset to the town".

"Brewers Quay is a lovely collection of shops and I know many visitors enjoy spending time in there," he added.

Earlier this month, the BBC reported that a new building being constructed in Birmingham is set to include a restaurant and hotel.

The Cube, which has been designed by the London Gherkin's architect Ken Shuttleworth, is due to be finished by August.
