Sheffield Holiday Inn back on track

Plans to build a new Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Sheffield are now back on track.

The inn will cost around £10 million to build but will create a great amount of employment, not only in construction work, but hotel jobs too.

It will be located in the Norton area of the city and will contain 161 bedrooms, the Sheffield Telegraph reports.

"There has been quite a delay. We originally planned to open in 2007," Hermann Beck, who signed the contract with developers Finnegans, told the newspaper.

The delay was, in part, caused by the recession but the build was also halted by two archaeological digs.

Natural materials, including sandstone, slate and glass, are to be used in the seven-storey hotel, which is now due to open on July 24th 2011.

Last year, the newspaper reported on the opening of the £18.7 million, 11-storey Jurys Inn in Sheffield's Eyre Street.
