The future of hospitality jobs in the UK could be looking up, as new figures reveal that hotels nationwide enjoyed another strong month in July.
According to data from PKF Hotel Consultancy Services, room occupancy in London was up by 0.6 per cent on last year, to an impressive 92.5 per cent, while the average room rate increased by 6.1 per cent to around £163.
Results in other major cities were equally promising for those seeking hotel jobs, with occupancy rising by 5.7 per cent in Manchester, while average room prices were also up in Leeds and Edinburgh.
Robert Barnard, partner at PFK Hotel Occupancy Services, said London hotels had seen particularly strong trade in July, but warned that other summer months may not reflect this performance.
"Unfortunately the August figures may reflect a different picture as the riots which occurred during the month could have a negative impact on hotel bookings," he explained.
This week it was announced that new Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites venues would be opening at the Westfield shopping complex, creating hotel jobs near the Olympic Village in east London from May 2012.
