Hotel recruitment in York is set to increase in the coming months as construction work gets underway on brand new accommodation in the city centre.
A 102-bedroom Hotel Indigo will be built on the site for the former Infinity motorbike shop in Walmgate, which has been unoccupied since it was demolished in the summer, reports the York Press.
Expected to create 40 new employment opportunities with Sojourn Hotels, the development comes alongside the company's wider expansion plans, with York being described as a "strategically important destination".
Surveys are to be carried out during the run-up to the festive period, with a number of conditions of the planning permission set to be addressed, while the design of the ground floor has been altered.
The new hotel will include a reception and bar area, as well as spa-style bathrooms upon its opening next autumn, following the launch of building work in January 2012.
Sojourn Hotels currently owns and operates four Holiday Inn Express establishments, while two Hotel Indigo developments are under construction.
