York hotel proposals could boost hotel jobs

Hotel jobs in York could be on the increase if plans to create new accommodation are given the green light by council officials.
A new bid has been submitted to construct the new development in the shadow of the city's Bar Walls with 12 bedrooms and a ground floor bar available to guests, reports the York Press.
The move comes after proposals for a 26-bedroom hotel on St Maurice's Road were dropped last year due to complaints about its Spanish-style design from the York Civic Trust and conservation experts from the local authority.
If the plans are given the green light, the establishment would be constructed on a site currently occupied by an empty catering support centre.
Laurie Reader Designs, the agents for the St Maurice's Road proposals, said the new design was created with the previous criticisms in mind, with planners expected to make a decision in January.
This comes after plans to create a 102-bedroom Hotel Indigo in the city were given the green light by council officials, with work on the development set to start in January 2012.
