Revenue per available room (RevPAR) and occupancy figures for the European hotel industry both improved last month when compared to October 2010.

This is according to new research from STR Global, which found positive results for the sector despite the grim financial climate, in news likely to buoy those on the hunt for hotel jobs.

Year on year, occupancy increased 1.9 per cent to 71.7 per cent, while RevPAR reached £63.76 - a boost of 3.7 per cent.

STR Global highlighted Manchester as a key UK market performer for the period, with a 9.4 per cent increase in occupancy, bringing it to 82.9 per cent.

Country by country, the UK saw an overall occupancy total of 78.4 per cent, up by 1.2 per cent and with a RevPAR of £62.06, which represents a positive change of 1.8 per cent.

The report was published as STR released data showing the US to also be experiencing improvements in the industry.

Occupancy edged up 2.9 per cent to 63.1 per cent and RevPAR hit $66.20 (£42.80), up seven per cent.
