Hotel recruitment in York could be given a boost with the news that around 120 jobs could be generated in a £12.5 million hotel project from Tiger Developments.

The 124-bedroom building could have the potential to raise the funds for a new link road in the area if it is allowed to go ahead, reports the York Press.

It would be five storeys high and include a restaurant or pub on the ground floor as well as 91 parking spaces for visitors.

Jonathan Kenyon, the council's development management officer, said the conjunction of a hotel and a link road will fulfil two of the regional authority's aspirations for the city.

Tiger Developments gained permission to build 158 homes on the site in 2004 but the development never went ahead, partly because of financial considerations.

The city of York is known nationally as a holiday destination and its tourist website recommends the York Dungeon and the Yorkshire Museum as potential attractions for visitors.
