BHA: Hotels should benefit from investment scheme

Hotel management jobs and other positions could be created through the economic boost provided by the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) if the government extends it to include hotels, the British Hospitality Association (BHA) has claimed.

This comes after chancellor George Osborne failed to include hotels as part of the scheme in his autumn statement.

Restaurants and pubs can still benefit from the opportunity, which allows smaller companies to raise finances by offering tax relief to investors who wish to buy shares in these businesses.

"At a time when many small and medium-sized hospitality businesses want to expand and develop, the EIS scheme would have opened the door to new funding opportunities," said BHA deputy chief executive Martin Couchman.

He added that it would encourage people to invest in British hotels and give an opportunity for expansion to independent hospitality businesses.

The BHA claimed recently that the hospitality industry can create 236,000 jobs for the UK before 2015.
