Hotel and restaurant development set for Wiltshire

Hospitality recruitment could be given a fillip in Wiltshire through plans to develop a restaurant and hotel complex in Trowbridge, along with a retail development and a new seven-screen digital cinema.

The plans are to come before Wiltshire Council's western area planning committee in coming days, reports Insider Media.

Developer Legal & General said about 200 new jobs would be generated if the proposals come to fruition, with 130 of these in the restaurant, cafes, sandwich shop and bars.

A Wiltshire County Council economic development officer claimed the limited provision of parking in the scheme could be positive for the town, as people parking elsewhere can walk across Trowbridge and see what the area has to offer.

"In light of the job losses that Trowbridge has sustained in recent times, a development which may lead to the creation of 200 jobs is welcome," he added.

Wiltshire already has a number of hotels, including the Old Manor Hotel and the Fieldways Health Club.
