Hotel proposed for Great Victoria Street

Hotel recruitment in Northern Ireland could be given a boost through the news that a 130-bed hotel is to be developed on Belfast's Great Victoria Street, in a site adjacent to Sandy Row and close to the railway station.
The Department of Environment has put the proposal up for discussion and will meet with Belfast City Council later in the week to seek their views.
If the proposal gains the backing of the council and is allowed to go ahead it could create 60 jobs for the city.
Minister for social development Alex Atwood said the hotel would provide a boost for the construction and tourism sector and help stimulate the economy, a key aim of the current Northern Irish executive.
"It would bring back life to an area which is currently underused, transforming a car park into an attractive tourist attraction in the heart of the city and improving the skyline," Mr Atwood argued.
Further hotel jobs could be created in Northern Ireland through plans to develop a hotel in the north coast town of Ballycastle.
