Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has hailed InterContinental Hotel Group's (IHG's) efforts to boost hospitality recruitment in the UK through plans to create 3,000 new jobs over the next three years.

The global hotel giant, which owns the Holiday Inn brand, has 275 establishments in the UK and expects to open more over the course of 2012, reports the Press Association.

Speaking at the opening of the firm's latest training academy in east London, Liberal Democrat leader Clegg said: "The British service sector is world-beating, and will soon welcome millions of guests to enjoy [the] London [Olympics] 2012."

He explained that reaching this standard requires investment in people, and praised IHG's attempts to do this through opening training academies and creating jobs.

This new commitment to job creation in Britain "will see local people benefit from training and work," Mr Clegg claimed.

IHG is one of the world's biggest hotel companies, welcoming roughly 153 million guests into its various establishments every year.
