Gatwick Airport could be offering head chef jobs in the coming months as celebrity chef Jamie Oliver plans to open a number of establishments in the North Terminal.

He will launch a Jamie's Italian and Union Jack's, as well as a bakery designed expressly for Gatwick to offer customers the chance to graze or pick up ready-prepared snacks before their flights.

Oliver expressed his hope that the project could be a "beautiful and exciting" development.

This comes as part of a £1.2 billion investment in the London airport intended to modernise the facilities available to passengers.

Charlotte Christiansen, business development manager of catering and services at Gatwick Airport, said: "Our partnership with Jamie Oliver heralds an exciting time for us as we continue to roll out our billion-pound investment programme across the airport."

Oliver is undertaking an aggressive campaign of restaurant expansion over the coming year, with outlets expected to open in St Albans, Manchester and York.
