People in pub management jobs with Greene King enjoyed a successful Christmas after the brewery and pub company announced record sales over the festive period.

In the seven weeks up to January 15th, it reported like-for-like retail sales as rising by 8.2 per cent and like-for-like food sales jumping by 11.1 per cent.

Earnings increased in their pub partnerships while sales of their own-brewed beer and cider also soared.

Chief executive Rooney Anand hailed the company's performance over Christmas, calling it a testament to the commitment of the staff and management and their ability to provide quality value and service to customers.

"Across the UK, the pub becomes the real heart of the community during Christmas. Supported by better weather conditions than in the previous year, we saw record Christmas bookings," Mr Anand added.

At the start of December 2011, Greene King offered a boost to restaurant recruitment in the UK by announcing plans to open 40 new establishments across the country in the new year.
