Tavistock to boost north-east pub recruitment

A north-east hospitality firm is hoping to boost pub recruitment in the region with a franchise scheme to create new gastro pubs and restaurants.

Tavistock Leisure, which already provides hotel jobs and bar staff roles across ten venues in the north-east of England, is planning a region-wide Pub Partnerships programme, reports Eat Out magazine.

Under the scheme, would-be pub and restaurant managers will be able to open either a traditional English gastro pub or a Tavistock Italia Retro Restaurant specialising in contemporary Mediterranean cuisine.

Mark Hird, managing director of Tavistock Leisure, said Pub Partnerships will give tenants the chance to operate independently, but "within the safety net" of a company with a proven track record.

Franchisees who decide to open the venues, which could substantially boost pub recruitment in the north-east, will also benefit from Tavistock's bulk buying power, affording them profit margins of up to 65 per cent.

Elsewhere in the region, the Jarrow Brewery has submitted plans to revamp The Ship Isis pub in Silksworth Row, Wearside, to bring new restaurant and bar jobs to the Sunderland area.
